Frequently asked questions
What is a credit?
A credit is the unit of compute billing on LobsterCage. Credits are consumed only while your cage is running. Different cage sizes consume credits at different rates — a Starter cage uses 60 credits/hr (1/min), while an Extreme cage uses 480 credits/hr (8/min). When your cage hibernates, it costs nothing.
Do credits expire?
Monthly plan credits reset each billing cycle. Purchased credit packs never expire — they stay in your account until used.
What happens when I run out of credits?
Running cages are stopped gracefully and new starts are blocked. You’ll never receive a surprise bill — we hard-block at zero credits. Purchase a credit pack or wait for your monthly reset to continue.
Can I change plans?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade at any time from the dashboard. When upgrading, you receive the new plan’s credits immediately. Downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle.
How does hibernation save money?
When a cage has no activity for 30 minutes (configurable), it automatically hibernates. Hibernated cages consume zero credits. When a webhook or cron schedule triggers, the cage wakes automatically — typically in under 30 seconds.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The Free plan includes 500 credits/month and 1 cage at Starter size. No credit card required to sign up.
How many credits do I need?
It depends on your workload. A Telegram bot that handles 50 messages/day might only run for a few minutes total, using around 10–20 credits/day. A coding agent running 30 min/day on a Standard instance would use about 60 credits/day. Use the instance size table above to estimate based on your expected runtime.
